Earth-Rite PLUS is designed to mitigate the dangerous build-up of static electricity during railcar, skid and intermediate bulk container (IBC) loading and unloading.
Railcars, lease automatic custody transfer (LACT) units, skids and IBCs are all conductive metal objects that can come into contact with electrostatically charged liquids. This, in turn, can cause the accumulation of hazardous levels of electrostatic charge that could discharge static sparks and ignite a vast range of combustible gases and vapours. Ignition accidents can be prevented by ensuring conductive metal objects are properly earthed.
The Earth-Rite PLUS allows for the earthing and bonding a broad range of equipment that comes into contact with combustible gases and vapours. It ensures that a continuously monitored 10Ω or less connection is present between the earthed object and a designated true earth grounding point.
The Earth-Rite PLUS is compliant with the recommendations of International Electrotechnical Commission regulation 60079-32-1, “Explosive atmospheres: electrostatic hazards, guidance,” National Fire Prevention Agency regulation 77, “Recommended Practice on Static Electricity” and American Petroleum Institution recommend practice 2003, “Protection Against Ignitions Arising Out of Static, Lightning, and Stray Currents.”
