Flexitallic is revving up to enter the world of motor-sport with Thermiculite®, a unique sealing material, which is already a component on a Formula 1 racing car that has performed in F1 races and is expected to be a permanent fixture on the car for the rest of the F1 season and duration of the car’s racing life.
The Flexitallic Group, manufacturer and distributor of industrial sealing solutions with sites in Cleckheaton, UK, Houston in the US, and China, was approached by the Formula 1 team seeking the best-performing high-temperature sealing gasket and sheet material for the exhaust blown diffuser.
Mathew Craggs, sales manager UK, said: “Development and improvement of the exhaust blown diffuser has been one of the major modifications in Formula 1 this season and our customer’s search for the ultimate high-performance material in extreme temperatures led them to Flexitallic for Thermiculite®.
“The successful introduction of Thermiculite into this critical performance application allows Flexitallic to provide the benefits of this unique material to other high-performance motor sport designers and engineers.”
Exclusive to Flexitallic, Thermiculite gasket material was developed over a 15-year period for use in critical services applications such as military aerospace and industrial exhaust systems, which require extreme process temperatures, from cryogenics to temperatures in excess of 1,000°C.
