The requirements of the food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries for filling viscous media into smaller packages are constantly increasing with regard to the efficiency of the process management as well as the cleaning effort and hygiene.
The piston filler traditionally used in the bottling plants of the food and cosmetics industries is robust and reliable. However, it often does not meet the growing demands for efficient process management – especially in the case of frequent product changes – as the cleaning of the piston filler would clearly take too much time.
Placed at the end of the bottling line, this technique therefore becomes the bottleneck of production. This bottleneck can now be eliminated with a state-of-the-art pump technology (‘debottle-necking’): LEWA EcoFeed solves filling tasks for media with high and medium viscosity, pasty fluids or masses quickly and precisely. Interactive components provide the background; the metering pump serves as a basis, which is characterised by important functions such as high accuracy, security and reliability.
Exactly defined and reproducible metering volumes achieved by the variability and controllability of the rotation and speed are key-features of the LEWA EcoFeed. If the metering flow is monitored by an external flow meter, this is the first step towards the system.
As a rotary pump, LEWA EcoFeed meters with a gear geometry specifically adapted to capacity and medium: The special design of the rotors allows for precise metering of small volumes of just a few ml as well. The stepping motor drive also allows for perfect start-stop operations, controlled by an application-specific programmed automation solution (LEWA intellidrive). It is thus possible, for instance, to eliminate dripping of the medium by controlled reversal of the stepping motor.
LEWA intellidrive is available as a stand-alone version with the necessary control intelligence already integrated into the drive unit. Alternatively, the pump can be integrated into a higher-level process control system and serve as a data generator on the 04/20 line. Since the drive can be synchronised with the filling system, it lends itself to usage for precise dosing bottling operations. In addition, LEWA intellidrive is recommended for the use with variable material flow parameters such as inhomogeneous
qualities or pressure and temperature fluctuations.
