When selecting a measuring instrument it is not only a question of the measuring task itself, but also a question of which supplier offers the appropriate tools for its field instruments. The technology for this is based either on the field device tool (FDT) or electronic device description language (EDDL).
With the new Endress and Hauser interpreter device type manager (iDTM), FDT/DTM and HART® field instruments can be operated over the registered, EDDL-based driver (DDs) with the FDL standard parameterisation and asset management tool FieldCare.
Previously, process transmitters without DTM from other suppliers could not be programmed with FieldCare or another FDT software. The corresponding driver (in this case DD), was often designed only for the specific operating tool from the manufacturer. This gap has now been filled with iDTM, which combines two technologies in one software tool.
Along with easy parameterisation of all FDT/DTM field instruments with iDTM, FieldCare Standard and Professional are able to integrate all EDDL-based (DD) drivers.
Within iDTM, more than 600 of these registered DDs from diverse suppliers of the HCF (HART communication foundation driver library) have already been delivered. If a specific driver is not available in this library, FieldCare Standard and Professional release a function to add individual DDs to enable a modern, FDT-based asset management tool such as FieldCare to be used for future DDs.
