Polyamides

The Artenius plant in Portugal will produce purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

The PTA plant will be based in Sines in Portugal where there is already a large industrial park.

Much of the PTA from the Artenius plant will go to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production, including films and resins.

Polyplastics, owned by Daicel and Ticona, operates a 21,000t/yr polyester plant at Fuji City. A future European-based engineering plastics project involving two initial partners has finally been agreed between the Celanese subsidiary Ticona and DSM.

Ticona has a 40-year-old plant in Shelby, North Carolina, producing both PBT and engineering-grade polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with a capacity of 60,000t/yr.

The refinery at Panipat, Haryana, India, will be the site for IOC's new aromatics and PTA complex. The refinery will also provide feedstock for the new production plants. The complex is part of Indian Oil Corporation's plan to develop infrastructure at the site. The capacity of the refinery is set to double.
