Yanchang Petroleum to equip new HDPE resin plant with Lyondell process technology

26 January 2012

Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Yanan Energy and Chemical has been granted permission to use LyondellBasell's Hostalen ACP process technology under a new licence agreement.

Shaanxi will use the process technology to build a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resins plant in Shaanxi Province, which is expected to start production in 2014. The Hostalen ACP process technology features includes three reactors in cascade, which enables the production of high-performance HDPE resins particularly suitable for film, blow-moulding and pressure pipe applications. Hostalen ACP also has low manufacturing and investment costs for multimodal HDPE and capacities of up to 450 kilo tons (KT) a year.

LyondellBasell Technology vice-president Bob Patel senior said this was the largest capacity Hostalen ACP multimodal process technology that they have licensed, further demonstrating the competitive economics for producing leading HDPE resins. The company also licenses polypropylene and polyethylene technologies.

LyondellBasell's other licensed polyolefin technologies and associated technical services portfolio includes Lupotech, a high-pressure tubular and autoclave process technologies used for the production of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers.

The company's Spherilene technology is used to produce low-linear density polyethylene (LLDPE), medium-density polyethylene (MDPE), HDPE and its Spherizone technology, which is based on a multizone reactor, produces polypropylene and novel polyolefins.
The porfolio also includes Spheripol technology which produces homopolymer, random and heterophasic copolymers and Metocene PP, an add-on technology used for the production of specialty polypropylene products using single-site catalyst systems.

LyondellBasell's products and technologies are employed in packaging, electronics, automotive components, home furnishings, construction materials and biofuels industry.
