WorleyParsons wins Evonik isophorone, isophorone diamine plants contract
Evonik Industries has selected WorleyParsons to provide detail engineering, procurement support and construction management to construct isophorone and isophorone diamine plants in Shanghai, China.
The new plants, with a total capacity of 50 kilo tonnes per annum (ktpa), are expected to start their production in the first quarter of 2014.
Evonik coatings and additives business unit production and technology head Udo Kowalczik said: "We are going to extend our global production network into Asia, which is only possible with a world-wide acting partner. For the successful implementation within our ambitious timeline we found the right partner in WorleyParsons."
Evonik produces isophorone chemicals in Herne and Marl, Germany, Mobile, Alabama, US and Antwerp, Belgium.
Isophorone and isophorone diamine are important components used to produce industrial flooring, paints and coatings.
The products are also used in the high-growth area of high-performance composite materials and in chemical synthesis.
WorleyParsons provides professional services to the energy, resource, and complex process industries.
Evonik's core business is specialty chemicals, which is divided into three reporting segments including consumer, health and nutrition, resource efficiency and specialty materials.
