US-based natural gas company Williams has said that its board of directors has approved an expansion of its Geismar olefins production facility.
The Geismar facility is a light-end natural gas liquid cracker with current volumes of 37,000 barrels per day of ethane and 3,000 barrels per day of propane, and an annual production capacity of 1.35 billion pounds of ethylene.
The expansion will increase the facility's annual ethylene production capacity to 1.95 billion pounds.
Capital investment is expected to be around $350m to $400m in 2012/13.
The expanded facility is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2013.
