Wacker opens VAE dispersions production plant in South Korea

Wacker Chemie has opened a new vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer (VAE) dispersions production plant in Ulsan, South Korea.

The plant, which produces 40,000mtpy of VAE dispersions, is expected to increase the company's total production capacity to 90,000mtpy.

Wacker Chemie president and CEO Rudolf Staudigl said the start of the €10m plant expansion is based on the continuous rising demand for VAE dispersions in the south-east Asian market.

"The additional capacity will enable us to continue reliably meeting our customers' high demand over the coming years, thus securing our leading global position in VAE dispersions," Staudigl added.

Wacker has already produced VAE dispersions, under its VINNAPAS trademark, at the Ulsan plant for use as binders in the adhesives industries.

The products produced from the expansion plant will now be used in industries such as nonwovens, paints and coatings, construction, paper and carpet, according to Wacker.

In addition, Wacker has started VAE capacity expansion at its plant in Nanjing, China, which is expected to be completed in mid-2013.
