Toray to construct new PPS resin production facility in Hungary

Japan’s Toray Industries is set to construct a new polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) compound production facility at the Hungarian site of its US subsidiary Zoltek Companies, which supplies carbon fibre tows.

The new facility is expected to start operations in March next year and will have an annual production capacity of 3,000t.

Flame-retardant PPS resins have applications in automotive electrical and powertrain components. These resins market have been expanding in Europe, increasing demand.

Once the new production site in Hungary is complete, Toray Industries will have a total of eight PPS manufacturing locations, including Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and the US.

These worldwide Toray PPS organisations plan to partner to improve customer satisfaction from multiple regional sources of supply.

In addition, local production of commercial and prototype products will strengthen the company's supply network in Europe, while accelerating evaluation of PPS resins for new markets.

Toray currently has an annual PPS polymer production capacity of 27,600t. Establishment of the PPS resin compound production facility in Europe is part of its ‘Expansion and Advancement of Global Business’ strategy.
