Japan's Toray Industries has successfully produced renewable bio-based PET fibre using Gevo's bio-based paraxylene.
The bio-based PET production uses terephthalic acid and renewable mono ethylene glycol as raw materials.
PET is a thermoplastic polymer resin used in synthetic fibres, liquid containers and thermoforming applications.
The company is planning to introduce the laboratory-scale fbre samples at Eco-Products 2011 in December.
