Teijin is planning to set up ¥2bn ($25m) pilot plant at its Matsuyama Factory in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, to produce carbon-fibre reinforced thermoplastic components from carbon fibre.
The plant will incorporate the company's mass production technology, which reduces the cycle times needed to mould composite products, enabling rapid production of various prototypes and performance evaluation tests.
The carbon fibre plant is likely to begin operations in mid 2012.
The company will deliver carbon-fibre reinforced thermoplastic components for the automotive industry, among others.
