Solvay inaugurates new R&D and technology centre in India

Chemicals and plastics manufacturer Solvay Group has inaugurated a new technology and research and development centre in Savli, Gujarat, India.

The centre will focus on the development of polymers, organic chemistry, nano composites and green chemistry.

Solvay Group CEO Jean-Pierre Clamadieu said, "I am convinced that India offers to Solvay significant growth opportunities and this centre will be a key contributor to implement our strategy in the country."

The head of the centre, Sanjay Charati, said, "We will focus on customer-tailored innovation for the region by leveraging the various strengths of the group and the innovation potential of the regional academic world."

The centre has formed three fellowships for research in nanotechnology, polymer science and sustainable chemistry at the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

The company said the objective of collaboration between universities, research institutes and business organisations is to speed up the design process and to introduce new products to the market.
