SI Group is investing $30m to construct a new phenolic resin manufacturing site at the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP) in China.
The new facility, which will have an initial production capacity of 30,000tpa, will produce phenolic resins in lump, pastille, liquid, and powder forms to help serve the rubber, abrasive, friction, impregnation, and refractory market industries.
SI Group said the facility is expected to start its production operations in May 2013 and has the potential for expansion to reach 70,000tpa. The NCIP site was chosen because of good infrastructure, a skilled workforce, logistics and access to raw materials.
The company said the construction of the new resin facility in Nanjing and the plan to further expand resin production capacity in 2012 are in line with its accelerating growth strategy for China.
SI Group has invested approximately $1.5m for the opening of a modern rubber and industrial phenolic resin application laboratory at its Songjiang plant, which is involved in the research and development (R&D) of resin products.
The Group also recently invested $3m for a wastewater treatment plant at its Songjiang location.
SI Group operates 20 facilities in 12 countries develops and manufactures phenolic resins, alkylphenolic resins, alkylated phenols and other chemical intermediates.
The company's various other range of products includes tackifier resins, reinforcing resins, bonding resins curing resins, adhesives, industrial resins, surfactants, engineering plastics, fuels & lubricants, plastic additives, and specialty chemicals.
