Shell declares force majeure at Singapore plant

5 October 2011

Oil major Royal Dutch Shell has declared force majeure on its naphtha supplies to some of its customers following a fire at its chemical complex in Singapore.

The fire affected the company's diesel fuel unit and forced Shell to shut its entire refinery, reported BBC News.

The complex includes an 800,000 tons-per-year (tpy) ethylene cracker and 750,000-tpy petrochemical plant.

The oil major has declared force majeure on its naphtha supplies to Petrochemical Corporation Singapore (PCS) and to customers of the other petrochemical plant, which produces monoethylene glycol (MEG), for October-delivery.
