Sanwei Hexion Chemicals begins VeoVa monomer production

31 May 2012

Sanwei Hexion Chemicals, a joint venture company formed between Momentive Specialty Chemicals and the Shanxi Sanwei Group, has started production of VeoVa monomer at its new plant in Shanxi, China.

The new plant is expected to increase the current VeoVa monomer manufacturing capacity by 30%.

"VeoVa monomer is used in water-based acrylic and vinyl coatings, adhesive formulations, roof tile coatings and light-duty anti-corrosion coatings."

Jorrit Klaus, Momentive Specialty Chemicals versatics vice president, said the new plant is a major investment in the future of water-based coatings and the properties of VeoVa monomers.

"Because of its unique, bulky alphatic structure, VeoVa monomer provides polymers with superior water, chemical and UV resistance in addition to improving adhesion on a variety of substrates," Klaus said.

"By improving the performance of water-based coatings in demanding applications, VeoVa monomer enables manufacturers to switch from solventborne systems to more environmentally suitable, low VOC formulations."

The new plant is slated to start commercial operations in June 2012.

VeoVa monomer is used in water-based acrylic and vinyl coatings, adhesive formulations, roof tile coatings and light-duty anti-corrosion coatings for construction and marine applications.

The monomer is also used in redispersible powder systems which are applied in thermal insulation products for existing buildings, as well as in new constructions.
