Sabic grants design contract to Jacobs

28 June 2012

Jacobs Engineering Group has received a design contract from the Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Company, an affiliate to Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic).

"The project will be implemented from Jacobs' Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and Winnersh, UK, offices."

As part of the agreement, Jacobs will develop a front end engineering design (FEED) package and process design package (PDP) to build an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plant in the industrial city of Jubail, in Saudi Arabia.

The project will be implemented from Jacobs' Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and Winnersh, UK, offices.

The UHMWPE facility is expected to produce 35,000tpa and use ethylene sourced from Kayan's existing olefins plant.

Bob Irvin, Jacobs Group vice president, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this high profile project, which we take to be both a statement of our client's confidence in our ability to deliver strategic projects of this nature and the commencement of what we hope will be a significant and long-term relationship with Sabic that will drive mutual benefits to our businesses and build upon our presence and future capability in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

Jacobs has not disclosed the value of the contract.
