24 July 2012

Industrial gases company Praxair has commissioned a new air separation plant in Gran Sabana, Bogota, Colombia, which will be the company's third cryogenic air separation plant in the country.

"Domingos Bulus, Praxair South America president, said the project reaffirms the company's commitment to economic development."

The new facility can manufacture 200tn of liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon each day and will form part of the company's new industrial complex.

The industrial complex, which also includes a cylinder filling station, a specialty gases production plant and a service centre, will cater to Gerdau's facility in Colombia.

Domingos Bulus, Praxair South America president, said the project reaffirms the company's commitment to economic development and the reliability of its services throughout the region.

"We will continue to focus on increasing the productivity of our clients through operational excellence," Bulus added.

"The new industrial complex will foster greater agility and efficiency in our operations."

Gerdau is the producer of long steel in countries throughout south and central America, as well as the US, and has an installed capacity of 26mmt of steel each year, which is used in the civil construction, industrial and agricultural sectors.
