PPG Industries plans to increase precipitated silica production capacity by more than 18,000t/year to meet growing demand.
The capacity expansion includes projects at PPG's manufacturing locations in Lake Charles, Louisiana, US, and Delfzijl, the Netherlands.
PPG silica products general manager Kevin Braun said that some of the capacity will begin operation during the fourth quarter of 2011, and that the expansion projects will be completed by the end of 2012.
PPG's silica products business is involved in the manufacture of precipitated silica for tyre, battery separator, carrier, coatings, industrial rubber, footwear and silicone end-use applications.
