The New South Wales Environment Protection Authority in Australia has lifted the prevention notices that were issued due to an incident on 9 November 2011 on Orica's pressurised ammonia storage system.

The move will allow Orica to resume the operations of nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plants.

Orica has been undertaking pre start-up testing on the ammonia plant as directed by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

Kooragang Island site manager Sean Winstone said they worked toughly to evaluate to the EPA and other regulatory agencies that they have satisfactorily directed the issues which caused the 9 November incident.

"We have in place various activities and programmes to support the safe and environmentally sound operation of the nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plants through start-up and into the longer term," he added.
