NNPC and Delta state to develop petrochemical and fertiliser plants

17 August 2012

Delta state in Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) have formed a partnership to develop the gas resources in the state to encourage economic growth.

NNPC group managing director Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo said NNPC is undergoing a transformation process that will make it operate like other national oil companies such as Petrobras of Brazil and Petronas of Malaysia, and will help it become commercially viable.

"We are optimistic that the joint venture between the NNPC and Delta state would create an economic spin off that would result in job creation for the teeming youths of the state,"Barkindo added.

The partnership will accelerate the industrial growth of the state in the areas of petrochemicals, fertiliser plants and other gas related factories, according to Barkindo.

Delta state Governor Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan said the joint venture will improve the economic fortunes of the people and help to sustain the peace in the state.

Uduaghan also said that the state is starting a new power plant and gas will play a very important role in its operations.
