Momentive to construct resin plant in Thailand

Momentive Specialty Chemicals is planning to construct a new acrylic-based resins plant in Chonburi, Thailand, to serve their south-east Asian customers.

"The plant, which is already in progression, is expected to be operational by the first half of 2013."

The company also plans to expand its acrylic resins production capacity by up to three times with the opening of Chonburi plant.

Located in the Pinthong Industrial Estate Park, the facility will produce acrylic resins designed primarily for use in coatings, adhesives and building and construction applications.

The new site will also include product development and applications laboratories alongside technical service and application support capabilities for customers in the region.

Julia Harp, Momentive senior vice president, said the plant is a step forward in the company's global growth plans.

"Upon completion, we will be positioned to significantly enhance our offerings of acrylic resins," Harp added.

The plant, which is already in progression, is expected to be operational by the first half of 2013.

Momentive also said that its existing Thai-based Samutsakorn plant will be closed, once the construction of new facility completes.
