Mitsubishi Rayon to develop renewable feedstock for methyl methacrylate

11 November 2011

Mitsubishi Rayon and its subsidiary group Lucite International are jointly developing alternative renewable feedstock sources for the production of methyl methacrylate.

The renewable feedstock sources utilise existing technologies, and the company plans to produce at least 50% of methyl methacrylate using such sources.

Mitsubishi Rayon is planning to begin production of methyl methacrylate feedstock by 2016.

Methyl methacrylate is used in the manufacture of recyclable transparent plastics, coatings and adhesives.
