MCCP to acquire US polyvinyl chloride compound plant

22 August 2012

Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers (MCCP) is planning to purchase a polyvinyl chloride compound plant in Bellevue, US, from A. Schulman (ASI) to expand the North American market reach for Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC).

"Since December 2011 MCPP has assigned the maufacturing of polyvinyl chloride compounds to ASI's Bellevue facility."

The transaction, which is expected to be completed by the end of November 2012, includes ASI manufacturing equipment and facilities in Bellevue.

MCC and ASI dissolved and liquidated a North American polyvinyl chloride compound joint venture and transferred the business to MCPP at the end of December 2011.

MCPP, with the acquisition of the Bellevue facility, is planning to expand its existing business in thermoplastic elastomers for automotive injection and extrusion applications.

Polyvinyl chloride compounds are used in a number of products, which include interior and exterior components for automobiles and insulation for electric wiring.

There is a continuing demand for polyvinyl chloride compounds in North America, according to MCC.

Since December 2011 MCPP has assigned the maufacturing of polyvinyl chloride compounds to ASI's Bellevue facility.
