Lummus licences technology for Russian plants

CJSC Vostochnaya Neftechimicheskaya has awarded a licence and basic engineering contract to Lummus Technology, a CB&I subsidiary.

The contract is for a naphtha steam cracking unit, and a butadiene and benzene extraction unit, both based in Russia.

The steam cracking unit will use Lummus's SRT-VII heater technology to produce more than 1.4 million tons of ethylene and more than 600,000 million tons of propylene each year.

The butadiene unit will use the Lummus / BASF butadiene extraction technology to produce 230,000 million tons of benzene and around 200,000 million tons of butadiene.

Ethylene and propylene are used to produce finished products, including plastics, fibres and rubber, while butadiene is used in the production of synthetic rubber.
