Kuraray gets approval for capacity expansion at Texas plant

Kuraray America has received approval for a $49m project to increase production capacity for ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer resin at its facility in Pasadena, Texas, US.

The project is expected to increase capacity by 8,000t/year, bringing total capacity to 47,000t/year.

Ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer resin is used in floor-heating pipe systems, chemical bottles, fuel pipes, cosmetic tubes, wallpaper, balloons and a number of other consumer and industrial applications.

Kuraray has three ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer resin manufacturing plants in US, Japan and Belgium.

Following the expansion, the company's annual combined capacity for the chemical will be 81,000t.
