Germany-based K+S Group has received approval to commence a C$3.25bn (US$3.15bn) solution-mining potash project in southern Saskatchewan, Canada.
The expansion project will to produce 2.86 million tons of potassium chloride a year by 2023.
Initial infrastructure construction at the site has already begun.
Potash production is likely to start in 2015.
The company expects to expand the total output of potassium chloride to four million tons a year in the next ten years.
