As part of the agreement, KBR will supply front-end engineering services to DuPont's ethanol plant.

The plant is expected to produce 27.5mn gallons of ethanol per annum and process 1,300tpd of corn stove.

KBR will execute the project from its operations centre in Wilmington, Delaware.

The construction of the plant is expected to begin in the second half of 2012 with a 12-18 month completion period.

David Zelinski, KBR downstream business unit president, said both the companies have a long-standing partnership and a history of successful project execution.

"This award further affirms and solidifies KBR's 20-plus year partnership with DuPont in the safe and efficient development and execution of capital projects, and reinforces KBR's position as an EPC leader in biofuels projects," Zelinski added.

The cellulosic ethanol is used as a blending component in gasoline by fuel manufacturers and will meet US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
