Jacobs to construct Solutia resin plant in Malaysia

Flexsys Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Solutia, awarded a contract to Jacobs Engineering Group to provide engineering, procurement and construction management to its new Butvar polyvinyl butyral (PVB) resin plant in Kuantan, Malaysia.

"US-based Solutia manufactures performance materials and specialty chemicals including polyvinyl butyral (PVB)."

Tom Quinn, Jacobs Group VP, said that the company is pleased to have received a contract for the resin plant in Malaysia.

"Jacobs is well aligned to Solutia's business goals, having supported Solutia early on in the project with front-end engineering services. We are proud to grow our relationship," Quinn added.

Butvar resins are used to improve the adhesion, strength, durability and flexibility of products. Jacobs will carry out the project activities from its office in Singapore with work share support from its other offices in the region.

Terms and value of the contract have not been disclosed and the construction is expected to be completed in 2013.

US-based Solutia manufactures performance materials and specialty chemicals including polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU).

Jacobs provides technical, professional and construction services to chemical, oil and gas, automotive, industrial, buildings, polymers, energy, mining and minerals industries.
