HPC to broaden PP complex in Yeosu

31 January 2012

Honam Petrochemical (HPC) is adding a 300,000 tonnes per year (tpa) polypropylene (PP) line to its PP complex in Yeosu.

A Honam official told fibre2fashion that the new PP line will be completed by February 2012 and its commercial production will begin in early April 2012.

With the expansion of its South Korea PP facility, HPC will raise its PP production to 1.2 million units (mln).

HPC operates PP plants at two locations in South Korea, one in Daesan and the other in Yeosu.

The plants have two production lines each, producing a capacity of 500,000tpa and 400,000tpa respectively.

HPC also operates PP plants in Malaysia with a production capacity of 480,000tpa.

In 1992, HPC added raw material processing facilities, including a naphtha cracking centre and aromatic compound factories, to its plant site in the Yeosu Petrochemical complex.

The company has leveraged its ethylene production capacity to 700,000tpa, and also constructed a specialty chemical company in 2001.

HPC manufactures plastics, synthetics and basic chemicals. It is also involved in carrying out research and development in verticals such as processing, specialty chemicals and environments.

HPC acquired Lotte Petrochemical and KP Chemical in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
