Honeywell has launched a third-generation laminate film, PowerShield 3W, to protect solar power panels from harsh environments.
PowerShield 3W, which acts as a backsheet for photovoltaic panels, helps protect the electrical circuits in solar panel modules, prevent moisture entry and maintain electrical charges within the module.
Jerry Buchanan, Honeywell photovoltaic backing systems business global business manager, said the company is committed to developing solutions which increase the performance and overall lifetime of solar panels.
"Honeywell's latest innovative backsheet, PowerShield 3W, provides solar panel manufacturers with cost-effective and reliable protection for their modules," Buchanan said.
"This backsheet has been proven to perform in some of the most rigorous conditions."
PowerShield 3W is bound by a proprietary adhesive which holds the backsheet and provides resistance to discoloration due to ageing, as well as helping solar modules retain their appearance and reflectivity. PowerShield 3W also provides resistance to sunlight, heat, cold and humidity, acids, bases, solvents, salts and other chemicals.
Tests conducted by an independent photovoltaic laboratory show that PowerShield 3W can withstand more than 3,000 hours of accelerating aging exposure at 85°C (185°F) and 85% relative humidity, without losing structural integrity, according to Honeywell.
Honeywell's PowerShield supply chain provides module makers with a single point of contact to manufacture every component of the backsheet.
