Evonik, RusBiotech JV to produce L-lysine in Russia

Evonik Industries and Russia-based RusBiotech International have formed a joint venture (JV) company, named Russkie Biotechnologii, for the manufacture of L-lysine in Russia.

L-lysine is an amino acid for animal feed that Evonik markets under the brand name Biolys.

The new facility will utilise Evonik's fermentation technology to convert approximately 300,000 metric tons of wheat into Biolys each year.

The total investment of the joint venture is anticipated to be around €150m. Engineering work on the plant has already started and the plant is scheduled to come online in 2014.
