Evonik builds Chinese isophorone plants
Evonik Industries has begun construction of its new production plants to manufacture isophorone and isophorone diamine in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) in China.
The €100m plants, with a projected annual capacity of 50kt, are expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2014.
Dahai Yu, Evonik Industries executive board member, said the integrated production platform will reinforce the company's presence in the market and enable it to supply the growing needs of its customers in China and the entire Asia Pacific region.
''This investment shall also consolidate our position as a worldwide leading manufacturer of the isophorone chemistry,'' Dahai Yu added.
In addition to the proposed plants, the company will launch a new Technical Service Center at its Xinzhuang site in Shanghai.
The centre, which includes laboratories for applied technology, is intended to develop isophorone product applications and deliver technology services to Evonik's customers.
