Evonik to realign hydrogen peroxide production sites in Europe

Specialty chemicals manufacturer Evonik is to expand its production capacities for hydrogen peroxide in Europe.

Hydrogen peroxide is used for pulp and textile bleaching, as well as in many other applications due to its environment-friendly cleaning and lightening properties.

Currently, Evonik is devising a plan that will see the realignment of the company’s existing four production sites in Europe to meet growing demand of the product in the continental market.

The expanded capacity for hydrogen peroxide will be commissioned this year, while the realignment measures are expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

Evonik Active Oxygens Business Line head Michael Träxler said: “We are meeting the requirements of our customers.

"It is just as important to support the growth of our customers as it is to meet the growing requirements for services in the various industries."

Alongside improving the production capacity of hydrogen peroxide, the company is also investing in logistics, including  development of a logistics centre that will allow Evonik to expand the business with smaller packaging sizes.

Active Oxygens EMEA Susanne Reinhart said: “Our customers use hydrogen peroxide in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors, in the processing of food packaging, and also in large quantities in the pulp and textile industries.

"We want to be able to react to the very different requirements of our customers and to work together with them to develop solution concepts for the future. With the realignment in Europe, we are now faster and more flexible and we are even closer to our customers."

Evonik produces nearly 950,000mt of hydrogen peroxide from its 13 production sites worldwide.
