Evonik doubles production capacity of moulding compounds at Chinese plant
Evonik has doubled the production capacity of moulding compounds after a two-phase expansion at its plant in Shanghai, China, to about 40,000t.
Gregor Hetzke, head of the company's performance polymers business unit, said that the move will further strenghten Evonik's position as one of the world's biggest suppliers of speciality polymers and lend additional import to its Shanghai operations.
The compounds, made of polymethyl methacrylate, are used in automotive, electronics and the lighting industry.
Evonik sells the material in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia under the brand name Plexiglas and in the Americas under the trademark Acrylite.
