EPA provides health assessment for TCE

3 October 2011

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released the final health assessment for trichloroethylene (TCE) to the integrated risk information system (IRIS) database.

The final assessment characterises the chemical as carcinogenic to humans and as a human noncancer health hazard.

The assessment will also allow for a better understanding of the risks posed by TCE exposure in soil, water and air.

It will provide federal, state, local and other policy makers with the scientific information needed to make decisions about cleanup and other actions to protect people's health.

The volatile chemical TCE is widely used as a chlorinated solvent.
