Egypt Hydrocarbon Corporation has awarded a AED142m ($38.6m) contract to Drake & Scull Water and Power (DSWP) to construct its mining grade ammonium nitrate plant in the province of Ain Sukhna in Egypt by April 2014.
Under the contract, DSWP's work includes the completion of construction and pre-commissioning of civil works, mechanical equipment and storage tanks erection works, and piping and structural steel fabrication and erection works.
On completion, the ammonium nitrate plant will produce 1,060Mt a day of mining grade ammonium nitrate (MGAN), which will be used in the mining and construction industries.
DSWP is a subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI), which is integrated in the design, engineering and construction sectors.
DSWP announced that this project is its first in Egypt's petrochemical industry since the launch of its specialised regional oil and gas division in 2010.
DSWP has entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement with Hassan Allam Construction, a provider of construction services to Egypt's industrial players, to complete the mining grade ammonium nitrate plant project.
Drake and Scull Water Power managing director Tawfiq Abu Soud said they have been aggressively engaged in partnering with regional and multinational companies in order to expand their market reach and optimise their service offering in the petrochemical industry sector.
"Our partnership with Hassam Allam Construction will allow us to expand in this promising industry and our unified multidimensional portfolio and regional expertise will enable us to cover the complete value chain of the petrochemical sector," Soud added.
"Our strategic joint venture will provide advancedconstruction and constructionmanagement capabilities and will lead to the successful completion of the project in line with the best global environmental and safety standards."
Hassan Allam Construction managing director Hassan Allam said they are happy to collaborate with DSWP in this field and look forward to future ventures across the country.
