Balcas and Eastman Chemical have signed a licence agreement that gives Balcas exclusive use of Eastman Cerfis technology to produce moulding and trim products in Ireland and the UK.
Eastman Cerfis technology contains no volatile organic compounds and enables surface solutions, which can be used with a wide range of substrates and coatings.
The moisture-resistant technology offers dimensional stability and minimised warping and twisting.
Eastman's polymers innovations division director Jim Mercer said: "In addition to the excitement of a collaboration with one of Europe's leading millwork manufacturers, this agreement is an ideal example of the growth Eastman is enjoying in the building products category - in the US and abroad."
Mercer added: "Historically, advancements in coating technology, such as MDF (medium-density fibreboard) coated flooring, have come from Europe. It's exciting to be sending some innovation in the other direction."
Balcas Kildare managing director David Gill said: "After pioneering the primed MDF moulding industry in Europe about 25 years ago, we feel that this technology is the most significant step forward within that time."
He added: "Eastman Cerfis technology is a much more durable and superior finish than any of the established moulded products in the market today."
Gill also said the product is ideal for typical installations in Europe.
"This product is so much easier to use than traditional moulding, providing cleaner fixing and installation processes for DIYers and the house builder."
Millwork and trim with Eastman Cerfis technology will be available through Balcas later this year, according to Eastman Chemical.
Balcas is a manufacturer of millwork in the UK and its product portfolio includes internal mouldings, pallet and packaging products.
US-based Eastman Chemical manufactures chemicals, fibres and plastics materials, and had 2010 sales of $5.8bn.
