Eastman Chemical's subsidiary Eastman Renewable Materials has acquired the assets of US-based TetraVitae Bioscience.
TetraVitae is a manufacturer of renewable chemicals, including bio-based butanol and acetone.
Eastman vice-president and chief technology officer Greg Nelson said TetraVitae's patented bio-catalysis technology will provide the company a platform to develop a range of bio-based processes.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
