US-based Dow and Japan's Mitsui have formed a 50:50 joint venture in Brazil, to develop sugar cane-derived ethanol for use as a renewable feedstock source.
The engineering and equipment fabrication for a new sugarcane-to-ethanol production facility in Santa Vitória, Brazil, has already started, with operations scheduled to start in the second quarter 2013.
Dow chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris said the initiative advances the company's strategy towards growth in high-value, innovation-rich sectors through strategic partnerships.
