DSM Nanjing Chemical Company (DNCC), a joint venture (JV) between Royal DSM and SINOPEC Group, has awarded contract to Toyo Engineering for the construction of a caprolactam plant.
Under the contract, Toyo will provide engineering, procurement and construction management services to install a plant in Nanjing, China. The plant is expected to produce 200,000tpa of caprolactam, in addition to DNCC's existing 200,000tpa caprolactam facility.
DNCC will invest approximately $300m into the new project, which is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2013. DSM's latest technology will also be applied to the new plant for expanding the production scale while saving energy.
Caprolactam is used as the raw material for a nylon fibre (nylon 6), nylon resin and film. With the completion of the new project, DNCC will become the largest caprolactam producer with 400,000tpa capacity. Caprolactam is one of core products for Royal DSM, which has plants in Europe, North America and China and has a current combined production capability of approximately 700,000tpa.
Toyo is also working to strive further for supporting plant construction by companies from third party countries in China and enhancing their presence to win orders there. The company mainly serves the hydrocarbons (oil and natural gas) and petrochemical sectors and is involved in R&D collaboration, design, engineering, equipment procurement and construction. It is also involved in test operations and technical guidance in general chemicals, petrochemicals, oil refinement, natural gas, electric power, nuclear power, advanced production systems, distribution, medical facilities, biotechnology and environment.
