Japanese refiner Cosmo Oil is set to commence commercial operations of a new 300,000t/year mixed xylene distillation unit in late December.
The xylene distillation unit extracts mixed xylene from gasoline components.
A company spokesman said the construction of the unit at its Yokkaichi refinery in western Japan has been completed, and trial operations have started.
The new unit will produce petrochemical feedstock paraxylene from its mixed-xylene output.
