BioAmber and Lanxess to develop renewable non-phthalate plasticisers

Lanxess and BioAmber have entered into a joint development agreement for renewable and non-phthalate succinic acid based plasticisers.

Under the agreement, the two companies will develop a portfolio of renewable succinic-based plasticisers that they hope will exceed the performance of other phthalates at competitive prices.

The companies believe that succinic acid based plasticisers can deliver the sustainability, performance and safety that the global plasticiser market is seeking.

Production is expected to begin in 2012.

BioAmber produces 3,000t of biobased succinic acid at a plant in France and expects to add an additional 17,000t of capacity in 2013 at a new facility in Sarnia, Canada.
