BASF plans superabsorbent polymer capacity expansion

BASF has said that it is planning to increase the capacity of superabsorbent polymers with investments in local production sites in fast-growing emerging markets.

In the company will build a superabsorbent polymer plant with an annual capacity of 60,000t in Camaçari, Brazil, and is expected to start production in late 2014.

In China, BASF-YPC, a 50:50 joint venture between BASF and Sinopec, is planning to start construction of a 60,000t/year superabsorbent polymer plant at its Verbund site in Nanjing in the middle of 2012.

Commercial production of Chinese plant is planned for the beginning of 2014.
