Arkema to restructure chlorochemicals, H2O2 operations in France

15 November 2011

Arkema will invest €40m to restructure chlorochemicals and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) operations at its Jarrie site in France, to help meet demand for hydrogen in hydrogen peroxide manufacture.

The project is a part of the Technological Risk Prevention Plan (PPRT), aiming to minimise the local community's exposure.

The PPRT involves regulations on the use of mercury electrolysis for chlorine production and strenghtening the site's hydrogen peroxide manufacturing activity, improving the chlorochemicals operations.

The project involves the shut-down of the 150,000 ton a year chlorine production using the mercury electrolysis process and its replacement with 70,000 ton a year membrane electrolysis within two years.
