AkzoNobel opens new coatings facility in Chonburi, Thailand

AkzoNobel has opened its new performance coatings production facility in Chonburi, Thailand, in order to meet the current and expected production needs in the country.

Built with an investment of €31m, the new facility will be the company's ninth production site in the South East Asia region. The new Chonburi site will be supporting a wide range of businesses within AkzoNobel and will offer improved customer service for several performance coatings’ businesses, as well as decorative paints.

The performance coatings businesses supported by the new facility include metal, protective, speciality and marine coatings. The new site also offers a provision for powder coatings in the future.

AkzoNobel Performance Coatings business corporate director Bill Collins said: "This new facility highlights our continued focus on adapting to market needs in order to better serve our customers with essential colour and protection.

"The Chonburi site will then provide opportunities for possible future expansion and growth in the region."

“It will also play a key role in driving organic growth for the performance coatings business.

"The large size of the new site and the already established infrastructure enables later-phase investments for expansion. The Chonburi site will then provide opportunities for possible future expansion and growth in the region."

Currently, the new facility has a workforce of 100 people, and the company intends to increase it to 200 at a later stage.

The company further explained that its Chonburi site features modern technology pioneered in the US and Europe in order to maximise operational efficiency and minimise waste generation.
