AkzoNobel expands Surface Chemistry plant in Boxing, China

AkzoNobel has completed the €4.8m expansion of its Surface Chemistry facility in Boxing, China.

The expansion will enable the company to supply higher value products to a number of markets, including cleaning, agrochemical, personal care, mining, fuel and lubes, as well as asphalt and the oil industry.

Before the expansion, the Boxing site was mainly engaged in the production of fatty acids, nitriles, amines and quaternary ammonium compounds for chemical intermediaries and fabric softeners manufacturers.

The latest expansion is expected to reconfirm AkzoNobel's commitment to the Asian market. It represents a series of investments made by the company to increase its production in China.

"The chemicals industry in Asia continues to evolve and over the last four years we have significantly increased our capabilities in the region."

AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry business managing director AB Ghosh said: “The chemicals industry in Asia continues to evolve and over the last four years we have significantly increased our capabilities in the region.

“Having already invested in the Boxing facility to improve operational excellence, the new production capacities we now have at the site mean we are better equipped to serve the growing demands of our customers in Asia and regions around the world.”

Last year, AkzoNobel opened a new alkoxylation plant in Ningbo, China.

The company is also preparing to double the production of organic peroxides at its Ningbo multi-site over the next year.
