ExxonMobil Completes Capacity Expansion
ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Chemical, has said that Japan Butyl has completed an expansion to increase butyl rubber production at its Kawasaki, Japan plant.
The expansion will increase annual production by 18,000t, bringing the plant's capacity to 98,000t.
ExxonMobil has installed technology that will allow the butyl polymerisation reaction to occur at -75°C instead of -95°C, saving energy and capital investment.
In 2006, ExxonMobil expanded Japan Butyl's halobutyl capacity at its Kashima plant by 17,000t per year.
In 2008, the company increased halobutyl capacity at its plant in Baytown, Texas, by 60% in 2008.
Japan Butyl is a joint venture of ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha and JSR Kabushiki Kaisha.
