Bayer Thai to Increase Bisphenol-A and Polycarbonate Capacity


Bayer Thai is planning to increase production capacity of polycarbonate and bisphenol-A in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, by the end of 2010.

Bayer said the capacity expansion will boost annual production of bisphenol-A by 24% to 280,000 million tons and polycarbonate by 10% to 275,000 million tons.

The expanded BPA plant is expected to come online in October or November 2010, while the polycarbonate plant is expected to come on stream in mid-December.

According to platts.com, Bayer Thai parent company Bayer is also planning to build another polycarbonate plant in Thailand or in China by 2013-14, which would have an annual capacity between 200,000 and 300,000 million tons.
