Aramco and Dow Move Ahead with Saudi Petrochemical Plant

Aramco and Dow Chemical will begin construction of a $15bn petrochemical plant in Saudi Arabia on schedule, in spite of a decision to change its location.

The plant was originally planned to be set up in Ras Tanura, but was later shifted to Al Jubail due to financial reasons.

The plant will be centred around an ethylene facility that will produce 1.3 million tons of ethylene and 400,000t of propylene per year.

The relocation also caused Aramco to cancel plans for an $8bn expansion of the existing Ras Tanura refinery, according to Meed.
